New Anatol OS what hardware - The Geek in me wants to know
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:33:50 PM »
So I am a software engineer by day and fledgling printer by night. I see this new OS and that Anatol has and see that they have made good use of a tough screen display to reduce the number of switches and buttons to fail. I am curious if the new system doesn't use a PLC what hardware (mini PC?) and IO (PAC?) are being used?

Bill

Programmable Automation Controller. It has a PC on board.

A PLC is a Programmable Logic Controller.

A bridge is a connection between a PC and a PLC (or PAC). Great way to connect a touch screen.

While a PLC and a PAC are both computers a PAC is Linux or Windows based where a PLC is a very thin OS with a small instruction set.

Hmmmmm.... I’m pretty sure they are still PCB based (Programmable Circuit board, or programmable control board... ???). A PAC may be the same thing, but I’m not sure. I know they are not controlled by PLC's tho. If there is a PC on board I bet it is in the touch screen, but again I’m not sure..... :-\

You have given me plenty of stuff to bug Paul about  ;D

I’ll let u know what I find out.

really? windows? I would think linux like mhm uses would be the way to go. Lightweight and no licensing fees.

Hey Spot. Can you snap some pictures of this OS and PLC? I don't think I can make it to Atlanta.

I would suggest any pics of this is kept private or in a member only section something like that will end up on another forum and be criticized for some god knows reason.

I have pictures of the OS on my site...

http://www.spotcolorsupply.com/Anatol_Aries_OS.html

I am pretty sure they are not PLC based (No other Anatols are)... They Titan we will have at the show should have 3 circuit boards in different locations, if they haven’t changed them too drastically.
