Nazdar what the hell!!!!
« on: February 03, 2014, 03:17:15 PM »
Wow I am flabbergasted. I called Nazdar to order a qt of a pantone matched ink. Standard plastisol, Wilflex and no special base nothing. They quoted $135, yes $135! For a goddam quart. I pulled the order and called Tech Support. Same specs for $39 and shipped today to boot. The guy was telling me with the machine they have it takes five minutes to make the ink and package for delivery. So why in hell is Nazdar so ridiculously high? We cannot afford these prices on smaller quantities we literally would lose all the profit just in ink.

my question would be why don't you have an ink mixing system in your shop?

Sounds like Tech Support has the Wilflex mixing equipment with scales tied  to the computer, and the shaker. No hands actually touch the ink, its all robotic. Lastly the shaker does all of the mixing for you with the lid on. So yes, touch a button and you're done. System was around 16K if I remember right so once its payed off it can be quite the litttle money maker for large shops and supply companies

It is on the agenda Sam. The owner wants me to come up with a cost analysis, using ink costs from last year and how much possible savings not just in materials but also time with a mixing system.

It's time to pull the trigger on a system. It will pay for its self in no time plus the added benefit of having any color on hand all the time.

I would guess that when going to a mixing system a PC system is cheaper than a system where you mix RFU colors?  Is this correct or are you seeing savings in other places than just component costs?

We run the Epic PC system. Got the starter kit, paid for itself within 12 months. We made the move because we got tired of paying a premium for a pint of ink and waiting a day or two for it.

I have the numbers plugged into the system and know exactly what it cost for each quart, gallon, etc. I can mix a color including labor and container for less the buying prepackaged. Std colors I still buy in stead of mixing in house.

Most of what we print has a 1-3 day turn around. Having the system in house allows up meet deadlines.

If it is some obscure color I only have to mix what I need for the job.

The starter kit has pigment in pints. As we used them replaced with gallons. White is the biggest mover and for us followed by Floro Pink, Marine Blue and PC Blue. Next time we order moving to 5 gallons of white.
I keep HO, Poly and some other bases on hand so we can mix what will print best for the job.

Very happy with the way the inks print.

Thats the one. The video expertly explains not only how it works but the importance of having ink at your fingertips. Think of it; you have a brand new shiny and pricey CH3D or whatever sitting idle waiting for ink. Acceptable? Not for most. Interruptive downtime is inevitable but not having all the parts and pieces of a job ready in a timely fashion is inexcusable. We approach the ink issue differently.
Since we don't have this awesome machine we simply stock (mostly quarts) of app 80% of the pantone colors in a color library room. All formulas are printed out and sealed on the actual buckets. Re-mixing can be done by anyone although we have an ink tech. Colors are filed numerically for easy retrieval. One could argue that this too can be an expensive endeavor but for us it is invaluable.

We use PC system most of our jobs have a Pantone. We stock bucket epics, mix pantones by jobs, then look for little jobs to use dribbles up on. Could not live without that in house. Couple bucket colors get regular use like navy, royal, top 5 kinda thing.

Get it, learn it, love it.

UPS Zebra printer works great for the labels, print them out and stick them on the container.
