Funky AA's going on.
« on: February 24, 2014, 06:28:55 PM »
Just a heads up to anyone out there discharging American Apparel 2001 in black,
we've had three runs on them today and got some funky results mixed in, looks like
cheap dye as opposed to redye, shirt color is different from the garments that discharged correctly.
Fun fun fun!

Great, we have a mid sized job with DC white coming up.  How bad are we talking?  Like reject bad or something that only a detail oriented screen printer would see?

If you have any issues it will be that the white won't be as white as on a good dye garment.
Drop of blue might help ya.

We were Pantone simulating colors and nailed it on Gildan 5000 only to be quite a bit "browner" on
the AA's.

I have always had issues with AA 2001's when it comes to discharge.  I know lots of people say they discharge great, but almost every run I've done with them has had mixed results with some doing fine and some being dull.  I had a small order not too long ago where it seemed like every other shirt was acting differently, and none were outstanding.  On the other hand I just ran 250 Anvil 980 blacks today and every single shirt discharged perfectly and I only caught one small oil stain in the whole lot.

Really? We've always had stellar results, this is a first for us with them.

Luckily we have a few thousand to do later this week. Unt unt unt.

Some times their stuff is funk. Just ran 750 of their boy beaters today. All discharge. Had about twenty of the blacks turn a little funky too. 100% cotton and did not look like a redye at all.

I feel like I have had worse than average luck with AA2001's and much better than average with the 980.  I can't think of a specific time I have not had a funky result on at least one shirt in a run of the 2001's and I honestly can't remember a single issue with the 980.  I have run a few 10s of thousands of the 980 over the last year and a half as it is my go to shirt for discharge...
