Snowing in louisiana
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:23:05 PM »
What?? And it's sticking too! Tomorrow our schools will be closed, roads will be closed. We can't handle this kind of stuff because we aren't used to it.

Ha!  I couldn't see it at first....
When I moved to Seattle from MN I was told by my new boss they were closing up shop for the day.   I thought issues with production or something.  He then told me they were forecasting up to 3" of snow.   It hadn't even started and everyone was already going home.  They can't handle it here either.  People freak out...

I'm working my day job,  setting up for a trade show in New Orleans... holy crap it's cold here... in the convention center, it was less than 45 degrees today... not good working conditions for indoor work

We don't even have snow here in Austin, but lots of ice and sleet/hail, and most schools and government offices are closed :D

The road in front of the shop this morning.  1" of ice with a small bit of snow but mostly ice pellets down first with frozen rain on top of that..  I didn't have any issues but I've got mud terrains, 4x4 with locking diffs and half a brain so I didn't break a tire loose until I wanted to.  I did some brodies on this road as best I could.  I turned the traction control off and locked the rear diff with the front wheels unlocked and I was able to cut it loose and have a bit of fun.

Having grown up in the Northwest, the thing that scares me most about this kind of weather in Austin is the morons who have enough trouble staying on the road when it drizzles.  Seriously, yesterday in the relatively light freezing rain there were 3 enormous pile ups and they closed 35 within a few hours.  Pretty pathetic, and really scary thinking about sharing the roads with these idiots.
