--- Quote from: IntegrityShirts on July 28, 2011, 08:50:34 AM ---I just picked up a Dell refurb "work laptop", so I can manage artwork a little easier wherever I am. I carry a portable HD with me and run sync software between machines so at any given point I should have at least 3 versions of all my important files.
Dell XPS L702X with:
Intel Core i7-2630QM processor (2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz)
640 GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
17.3in FHD WLED AG (1920x1080)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB graphics with Optimus
Would have been nice to have an SSD for the OS but the Dell outlet is limited on what they have and you gotta jump quick to catch something!

I LOVE the outlet deals, there is a lot of computer to be had for not a lot of money. That looks like a pretty nice laptop!

Recently had to modify the power plug.... Damn thing finally just wore out...
Ended up using some RCA jacks I found around the house. Worked pretty good!!

You all will get a kick out of this....... I don't know all the details of our system, I know it is HUGE. My IT team is very good!! 4 servers with terabytes of stuff.......workstations everywhere, all custom built for specific use.
Anyway.......one day, all artists were in a meeting in the art area. We looked at the film printer as it was printing film and realized no one had pushed print. I suddenly realized that one of my artists was on the way to New York on vacation and had a flight on Virgin airlines (with WIFI) and taken her laptop. She was running films for her jobs at 40,000 feet over St Louis. (I guessed that a 6 hour flight to New York was boring......LOL)
I love technology.............

My home rig's old now ( some parts were 'old' when they were new )
AMD Athlon X2 5200+ ( 2.71 ghz )
Asus m2n-e motherboard
Asus nvidia 9800GT Ultimate 512 ( factory overclocked 725/1750/2000 )
4 gig Corsair Ram ( 3.5 accessible, with the 512meg on the vid card, I still run XP 32bit )
Two 250gig ( seagate? western digital? ) drives, first split in half, second is pagefile, data backup and general crap.
Corsair 520w power supply ( high amps on the 12v rail, can't remember the number atm )
etc.
Stuffed it all in an Antec 900 case.
Good rig, use it for work and play.
